HOLY TUESDAY

We are now on the third day of Holy Week — Holy Tuesday.

On this day, several key events in the life and ministry of Jesus are recorded. Jesus once again traveled from Bethany to Jerusalem. Upon reaching the temple, He spent time teaching and engaging in deep conversations with the religious leaders, while also sharing powerful lessons with His followers.


Here is a summary of the significant events and teachings from Holy Tuesday:

1. The Withered Fig Tree

(Matthew 21:19–22, Mark 11:20–26, Luke 21:37–38)

As Jesus and His disciples were on their way to Jerusalem, they noticed the fig tree Jesus had cursed the previous day had completely withered. The disciples were amazed, and Jesus used the moment to teach them about having faith without doubt.

2. Jesus' Authority Questioned

(Matthew 21:23–27, Mark 11:27–33, Luke 20:1–8)

When Jesus arrived at the temple and began teaching, the religious leaders confronted Him, questioning His authority. Instead of giving them a direct answer, Jesus responded with a question of His own, revealing their hypocrisy.

3. Parable of the Wicked Tenants (Vinedressers)

(Matthew 21:33–46, Mark 12:1–12, Luke 20:9–19)

Jesus addressed the religious leaders through a parable, conveying a strong warning:

“Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.”

4. Parable of the Wedding Feast

(Matthew 22:1–14)

Jesus continued teaching about the Kingdom of God, emphasizing the importance of being ready and worthy.

“For many are invited, but few are chosen.”

5. Question About Paying Taxes to Caesar

(Matthew 22:15–22, Mark 12:13–17, Luke 20:20–26)

In an attempt to trap Him, the Pharisees asked Jesus about paying taxes to Caesar. Perceiving their deceit, Jesus answered wisely. His response amazed them, and they left Him speechless.

6. Question About the Resurrection

(Matthew 22:23–33, Mark 12:18–27, Luke 20:27–40)

The Sadducees questioned Jesus about the resurrection. Jesus gave a profound answer that left them astonished.

7. The Greatest Commandment

(Matthew 22:35–40, Mark 12:28–34)

A scribe asked Jesus which commandment was the greatest. Jesus summarized the law with love for God and love for neighbor.

8. Jesus Questions the Pharisees

(Matthew 22:41–46, Mark 12:35–37, Luke 20:41–44)

Jesus posed a question about the Messiah being the Son of David. No one could answer Him, and from that day forward, they dared not ask Him any more questions.

9. Woes to the Scribes and Pharisees

(Matthew 23:1–39, Mark 12:38–40, Luke 20:45–47)

Jesus openly rebuked the hypocrisy of the religious leaders and warned the people:

“So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.”

10. The Poor Widow’s Offering

(Mark 12:41–44, Luke 21:1–4)

Jesus noticed a poor widow giving a small offering at the temple and said:

“Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all the others.”

11. Prophecy of the Temple’s Destruction and Signs of the End Times

(Matthew 24:1–51, Mark 13:1–37, Luke 21:5–36)

As they left the temple, the disciples pointed out the buildings. Jesus then foretold the destruction of the temple and revealed signs of His return and the end of the age.

12. Parable of the Ten Virgins

(Matthew 25:1–13)

Jesus taught about the importance of being spiritually prepared for the coming of the Kingdom of Heaven.

13. Parable of the Talents

(Matthew 25:14–30)

He continued with the theme of preparation, encouraging faithful stewardship of what God has entrusted to us.

14. Parable of the Sheep and the Goats

(Matthew 25:31–46)

Finally, Jesus spoke about the final judgment and who will enter the Kingdom of God:

“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

On this day, Jesus focused heavily on teaching and preparing His followers for the coming Kingdom of God.
