The above three events are recorded in the Bible, which happened on Palm Sunday. The triumphal entry of Jesus Christ to Jerusalem gets more important. Only very few incidents are mentioned in all four gospel books. One of the incidents is Jesus's triumphal entry.
In Matthew 21:5 it is mentioned that this incident happened as a fulfillment prophecy which is mentioned in Zechariah 9:9
Jesus entered Jerusalem with crowded people on the side shouting hosanna. He entered the eastern gate, and after entering Jerusalem Jesus went to look around Temple. Some translations mentioned that he visited the temple late (two or three hours before the sunset) so the shops in the temple were getting closed. So he went back to Bethany with his disciples.
Why did Jesus choose the donkey?
As Jesus came near to Jerusalem, he called two of his disciples to bring a donkey from the nearest village. Jesus did this for a reason. He road in donkey to fulfil the prophecy Zechariah 9:9.
Donkey is one of the lowly animals, Jews feel hard to live under the Roman emperor, most of them are poor. so to signify that Jesus is with people who are treated lowly in the nation He travelled on a donkey. Also, donkey signifies peace.
Why do people celebrate Jesus?
Very few days before Palm Sunday Jesus raised Lazarus from death. That supernatural thing was spread virtually among the people. Also, Jesus did many miraculous things and redeemed people from suffering. At that moment people were facing a lot of struggles due to the Roman emperor. They are expecting a political change to free them from the Roman emperor. They expected the Messiah to save them from their struggles. so the people expected that Jesus would save us from the Roman emperor, so that the people shouted
Hosanna!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord –
the King of Israel!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord –
the King of Israel!
Meaning of Hosanna?
The term Hosanna comes from the original Hebrew text, which means save, rescue or Savior.
Here the people misunderstood that the Kingdom of God as bringing political change, but Jesus talks about the spiritual kingdom.
Thought for the day.
We are meditating on the last days of Jesus Christ. At this time it's important to understand, Why Jesus came to the world? Bible verses give a different important reason for why Jesus came to this world altogether we can say, Jesus came to this world to establish the Kingdom of God. Romans 14:17 says For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
During the times of Jesus people experienced peace and joy with Jesus Christ, so they celebrated Him. When He saw the people in suffering, He did miracles to bring peace and joy to them.
As a follower of Christ, what are we doing when we see people suffering?
Do our actions bring happiness and peace to others?
it is our responsibility to continue expanding God's Kingdom in this world. We have to identify ourselves with the people suffering. Amen
