Dear Friends,
Greetings to you all in the name of our gracious Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
We have now entered the final week of Lent, which is known as Holy Week. In this blog series, we will explore the significance and foundational understanding of Holy Week.
The Holy Week
Holy Week is one of the most important observances in the Christian Church. Different churches have different traditions and ways of observing this sacred week. The formal observance of Holy Week began in the late third century.
Holy Week commemorates a series of events that took place during the final seven days of Jesus Christ’s earthly ministry, leading up to His crucifixion.
It begins with Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, which we remember as Palm Sunday, and it concludes with His crucifixion. The main days of focus during Holy Week are Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday.
In the coming days, we will walk through each of the seven days of Holy Week and conclude with the celebration of Resurrection Sunday.
The Great Week
This is not just a holy week—it is also a great week, because it holds powerful historical and spiritual significance. The events that took place during this week are remembered even after more than two thousand years.
During this week, God performed great works for the salvation of humankind. It is also during this time that Jesus Christ fulfilled His divine purpose on earth.
The Week of Salvation
God’s plan to redeem and restore humanity was fulfilled during this week. The core beliefs of Christianity are rooted in the events of Holy Week.
The foundation of Christian salvation is based on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, both of which occurred during this week. For this reason, it is rightly called the Week of Salvation.
Holy Week Meditation
The events of Holy Week are recorded throughout the four Gospels in the Bible. For better understanding, we will categorize these events according to each Holy Day.
At the end of each blog post, you will find a scripture reading for the following day. I encourage you to meditate on the assigned passage before reading the blog the next morning. This will help you engage more deeply in the journey.
By following this blog closely, you will experience the joy of walking with Christ through His final days.
In Luke 22:19, Jesus said, “Do this in remembrance of Me.” In this command, Jesus calls us to continually remember what He has done for us. Remembering His work is one of the most important acts of faith.
We cannot remain faithful unless we remember what God has done for us. So, during this Holy Week, let us reflect on the life, suffering, and sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our salvation.
Tomorrow is Palm Sunday, and we will begin our Holy Week Meditations.
Please read the following scripture passages before reading the blog tomorrow at 6:00 a.m.:
